In Sampierdarena
The lantern
Located at Cape Faro, formerly also called "cadefa," the construction of which is traced back to 1128. The name of the builder is unknown: according to one legend, when the work was completed he was thrown into the void from the highest point of the lighthouse, to prevent him from making something similar elsewhere, or-and this is perhaps the more realistic version-to prevent him from demanding the agreed-upon fee.
The port basin
Built taking advantage of the long beach that started from the Capo di Faro and reached to the Polcevera shore, after the establishment of the "Autonomous Consortium of the Port of Genoa," which in 1927 approved in an assembly the enlargement of the port of Genoa with the construction of "five protrusions, 400 meters long and varying widths between 130 and 150 meters, in the water mirror of Sampierdarena, protected by means of an extension towards the west of the already existing dam defending the Lanterna basin and the construction of a pier at the mouth of the Polcevera.".
The Modena theater
Built in 1857 to designs by Nicolò Bruno, with a curtain by Nicolò Barabino depicting "The Apotheosis of Ariosto" and recently restored to its former glory.
The Docks Road
Pietro Chiesa Street, called the street of the docks because there were numerous warehouses there where goods unloaded on the docks of the port were crammed and which, to this day, is home to the historic CIRCLE OF CARBONAI, which owes its name to the fact that its members were all coal unloaders.
